How to make a gladiator costume?

Gladiators have been popular in almost every decade since Halloween became a huge hit. Gladiators are seen as heroes mostly because of mythology and Hollywood movies. If you want to be a Gladiator this year, but don't want to purchase a costume then we have a few ideas below to help you out.

Things You'll Need:

Instructions:

Step 1: The main part of the costume is going to be the tunic and then armor. In this step we are going to talk about the tunic. The tunic is a straight one piece material like an oversized tee shirt. You can either use an extremely large tee shirt or create a tunic. Most tunics have short sleeves with a narrowing at the waist. They will usually reach mid thigh. The tunic is considered the undergarment in the costume which is why it can be an oversized shirt.

Step 2: Now that you have the tunic you need to work on armor and getting the rest of the costume in place. The brown skirt or kilt is going to add armor to the costume, but more than that cover the tunic so that it stays in place. The upper body should be covered in an armor that you make. The armor can be a cardboard cut out that has been painted with silver or covered in tin foil. Since you won't be doing real fighting it doesn't have to have stamina behind it. The helmet is also part of the armor for protection. The helmet can be a hat you cover in tin foil or spray paint silver. It should be a helmet of some type in shape. You can add the red feathers to it for a Roman look if you wish or leave that out.

Step 3: The rest of the costume is about the weapons. Usually a Gladiator costume has a shield and knife or sword. You can make both these items with cardboard cut outs that have been painted or tin foiled like the rest of the armor. The weapons can be any size you wish. For the handle of the sword you can paint it a golden color and add a little more shape to the hilt to distinguish it.

Step 4: The Roman's and therefore Gladiators just had leather sandals that strap around the calves. You can choose to have the straps or just go with any pair of leather sandals you can find.

By following these steps you should be able to make a pretty decent costume. If you are going to be out in cold weather adding a cloak or cape can keep you warm. You also have the ability to add long sleeves or tights to the costume for more warmth if needed.
