How to make a Sweeney Todd costume?

posted by Barbaro on (6 years, 2 months ago)

Sweeney Todd has recently become a very popular costume due to the movie released this year. If you wish to make a Sweeney Todd costume rather than purchase one you have come to the right section. Below we will offer instructions as well as items needed to make the costume.

Things You'll Need:

  • Dress pants (blue or black)
  • White peasant shirt or dress shirt
  • Brown vest
  • Razor
  • Rag
  • Leather belt
  • Black shoes
  • Handkerchief
  • Black wig with white stripe

Instructions:

Step 1: As you might have noticed from the list the items you need could very well be in your closet. So hunt through your home to see if you can't come up with the pieces you need. If there is anything missing a great place to look for cheap clothing would be a second hand store. You might find a leather belt and even a black wig to help you complete your costume in the store. Once you have gathered everything you need you can set to putting the costume together.

Step 2: Dressing up is pretty easy you'll need to put the shirt, pants and vest on before adding to the costume to make it Sweeney Todd. Once the clothing is on you are able to place the belt on your waist. The belt should be able to hold your razor. The razor doesn't have to be an old fashioned type like in the movie if you don't have one or can't find one. Most will get the jist with a regular razor. The rag should be placed on the other side of the belt which you will use to wipe the razor clean.

Step 3: The handkerchief is an addition you don't have to have, but it will tie around the neck. You can also use a brown scarf. It should hang just above the vest and allow the shirt to remain open at the neck.

Step 4: As Sweeney Todd is an older gentlemen his hair is starting to turn white. This is why any black wig you come across should have the skunk streak from front to back. The streak should be a little to the side.

Step 5: In this step you can add makeup to make your eyes darker, as though you have bags under the eyes from lack of sleep. You can also add a pallor to your complexion.
