Character costumes find increased popularity
> At a studio in Tokyo, six men and women from their 20s to 50s are dancing to music. After an hour, their instructor, Choko Ohira, tells them it’s time, and they begin putting on character costumes. Suddenly the mood has changed as humans are replaced by a cartoonish pig, gorilla, rabbit and other characters. Their movements are cute, and one finds oneself drawn to them.
>”Even adult fans talk to the mascots,” says Nimura. “Costumes are not just for children. Even grown-ups can enjoy them.”
