Celebrate Barbie’s 50th Birthday!
For a gal in her 50s, Barbie sure has aged well and her well-sculpted body still probably contains less “plastic” than half of Hollywood! On March 9th, 2009, everyone’s favorite fashion doll turned a fabulous 50! The perennially pink and plastic princess celebrated her birthday in high style with a star-studded birthday party at her Malibu Dream House. Celebrities on the guest list included model Heidi Klum, The Hills’ Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth, and Kourtney Kardashian among others.
Some guests came dressed in pink like the party’s honoree and a new version of the very first swimsuit Barbie was given as a party favor to guests.
Barbie was created by Ruth Handler in 1959 and named after her daughter. She created the doll as something different for little girls to play with besides baby dolls. Fun and fashionable, little girls got their very first style cues from their Barbie dolls.
Pay your own homage to Barbie in her 50th year with Barbie costumes. Classy and classic, you can dress up as a 50s chanteuse with a costume based on the iconic Solo in the Spotlight Barbie. Pair up with Barbie’s long-time boyfriend Ken (they’ve been broken up for several years, but still remain good friends!) with some Ken costumes featuring the plastic pretty boy donning some snazzy formalwear or a swingin’ ’60s look!
For something unusual and humorous, dress up as Geriatric Barbie with a DIY costume idea, sure to be the laugh of the party!
