Innovative Costume Ideas for St. Patrick’s Day

Whether you are Irish or just want to celebrate the long dead Patron Saint there are many costume ideas for you to enjoy. The most common costume idea is either a hat with makeup that is green or the whole Leprechaun outfit. For our innovative costume idea we are going to look at the Leprechaun.

The Leprechaun is a wily creature bent of amusement for himself, and very often not seen. Leprechauns are also rather short creatures with their pots of gold and mischievous grins.

To begin in creating the costume (or you can purchase a costume!) it will need to be green, with a tuxedo style jacket, white shirt, and green form fitting pants.

The shoes must be green felt with curled tops and wide black buckles.

The leprechaun hat can either be tall or a top hat as long as it is green with a little shamrock dangling from the side.
What it really comes down to in the costume idea is your makeup.

Some individuals choose to paint shamrocks on their face or paint their fact green, but truthfully the real Leprechaun will have a normal looking face with pointed ears. So for makeup you want to be less obvious. You will need a mischievous grin which you can paint on if need be. This grin should be a little wide with mystery in the eye. For eye makeup green eye shadow, mascara, and eye liner works best. Even eye lash lengtheners can add to the face. A little upward movement of the eyeliner will also add to your costume.

For the leprechaun ears you can use silly putty or stage makeup. They even sell pointed ears in the stores so that is also an option. If you are going to form your own ears you will need a pattern as well as a picture of your own ear. This can help you form fit the ear with your ear shape and pattern. Once all the pieces have been assembled you can step into costume and play your tricks on the unsuspecting.

Don't forget your pot of gold!
